NAGPUR: A three-day national conference on pain management organized by city branch of Indian Society for Study of Pain (ISSP) was inaugurated on Friday.

The conference will include discussions on various aspects of pain by national and international faculty, including the newer advances in dealing with pain.

Chief adviser of Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences Dr Ved Prakash Mishra, who inaugurated the conference, said that pain has been in existence since the beginning of mankind and will exist until the end.

"The science of pain management, however, is only three decades old. This means that the pain specialists of the world have a huge bridge to gap. At the same time they also have to keep in mind that the management of this relatively common affliction is cost effective as well as affordable," he said.

Chairman of Nairsons Group Uday Bhaskar Nair was the guest of honour. He praised the efforts of the anaesthesiologists in doubling up as pain consultants.

Mumbai-based pain physician Dr DK Baheti was conferred the life time achievement award for his service of over two decades in the field of pain management. Many of the society's past presidents were also felicitated on the occasion.
